DMU Preparation Course

The DMU Preparation Courses are specifically designed to meet the needs of those preparing for the DMU part 1&2 examinations.

Mark Bryant

Margaret Condon

Currently an Ultrasound Coordinator for MIA Victoria, Margaret has been scanning for over 20 years. Margaret is currently Chair of the DMU Board of examiners and an ASUM councillor. Having a keen interest in sonographer education, Margaret is actively involved with both ASA and ASUM education committees. Margaret has spoken at many national and international conferences, and has a passion for obstetric and gynaecology ultrasound.

Roger Gent

Roger Gent is the Chief Sonographer in the Paediatric Ultrasound Unit at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide, South Australia. His involvement with diagnostic ultrasound spans 35 years, with particular interest in paediatric sonography and also in the physics and technology aspects. He has been an invited speaker at more than fifty national and international meetings and regularly presents lectures and workshops at ultrasound courses in Australia, on paediatric and technical topics. He is the author or co-author of more than thirty articles, has received several awards from professional ultrasound bodies, is an Honorary Fellow of ASUM and a long-standing member of the ASUM DMU Board of Examiners.

Dr Rob Gill

Rob Gill studied Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of Sydney, then completed a PhD at Stanford University. He was employed as a Research Scientist at the Ultrasonics Institute in Sydney from 1975 to 1989, at which time the group was transferred to the CSIRO. Dr Gill was Deputy Chief of CSIRO’s Division of Industrial Physics until his retirement in 2005. He has had an extensive career of research and development, specialising in Doppler instrumentation and applications, and has published over 70 scientific publications and 150 conference papers. He has taught extensively on ultrasound technology. He has also been involved with professional issues over many years, and is a Past President and Life Member of ASUM. Since retirement he has been actively involved in teaching ultrasound physics and instrumentation.

Louise Morris

Louise has worked in the field of Cardiac Ultrasound since 1987 and I have lectured in several aspects of the Physics Ultrasound since 1996. Louise has served on the ASUM Board of Examiners and the ASAR Board.  She has a Masters in Mathematics as well as my DMU (cardiac) qualification.

Louise has worked with Newcastle and Hunter Cardiac Services performing cardiac ultrasound as well as many other managerial and administrative duties for over 24 years.  Further to this she  was the Chief Executive Officer for both
Newcastle and Hunter Cardiac Services and Pendlebury Clinic Private Hospital for over 7 years.

Donna Oomens

Donna began her career as an R.N, and moved into the new field of diagnostic ultrasound. Donna started in a Non-Invasive Vascular Lab in 1985, prior to the practice acquiring it’s first Ultrasound machine. In 1990 Donna successfully attained the DMU (Vasc) and proceeded to complete the RVT in the same year.  Donna moved to the Vascular Lab at North Shore Private in 1997, which enabled her to tackle the larger role of teaching, with preceptorships for ATL. This experience led Donna to become involved in running the precursor to the DMU prep course. Donna had a break from ultrasound while living overseas and then returned as senior sonogragher at two Sydney ultrasound practices with a renewed zest for ultrasound and its people.

Vanessa Pincham

Vanessa Pincham is currently the Clinical Coordinator Training & Human Resources at Sydney Ultrasound for Women.She is currently serving on the DMU Board of Examiners and remains actively involved in professional development and continuing education. Vanessa was a member of the ASUM delegation at EUROSON 2010 in Copenhagen

Her professional areas of interest and research continue in the area of first trimester screening most recently in the evaluation of additional first trimester markers of adverse pregnancy outcome.

Chris Sykes

Christopher is a sonographer from Melbourne with extensive experience in vascular and musculoskeletal ultrasound. He has presented work in Australia and overseas and has coauthored a number of papers. He has held positions on the ASUM board of examiners and as chairman of ASAR.

In 2007 he completed a Juris Doctorate, and in 2009 was admitted to practice as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia. Christopher works as a lawyer at Health Legal, a specialist legal practice in Melbourne that provides legal services to the health industry.

Rebecca Perry

Rebecca Perry is the head of echocardiographic research at Flinders Medical Centre.  She has been an echosonographer for over 12 years and is experienced in adult echocardiography.  Rebecca has been involved in research and advanced echocardiographic techniques for the past 7 years and has experience in techniques such as tissue Doppler, strain, speckle tracking, detection of left ventricular dyssynchrony and 3-D echocardiography. She has presented extensively both nationally and internationally as an abstract presenter, invited speaker and member of faculty.  She has recently written a chapter on the use of 3-D transoesphageal echocardiography in the operating theatre.  She has published abstracts and manuscripts on dyssynchrony, coronary vasomotion, speckle tracking, strain and 3D echocardiography.

Majo Joesph

Dr Joseph was trained at the University of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. He did an advanced Cardiology Fellowship in Echocardiography at the University of Toronto, Canada and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians.
Dr Joseph is the Director of Echocardiography at Flinders Medical Centre and is a Senior Lecturer at Flinders University.
His main interests are clinical cardiology, cardiac imaging and research into advanced echocardiography. He has presented his research in national and international meetings and is the author and co-author of many abstracts and manuscripts pertaining to echocardiography.

Lynn Brown

Lynn started her career as an RN at Flinders Medical Centre.  She worked for 10 years in the cardiac intensive care unit where she completed a cardiovascular nursing course.  Her position included working as the cardiac rehabilitation and heart transplant co-ordinator.   In 2001 she began her training in echocardiography, completing part 1 of the DMU followed by the graduate Diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound (QUT) which she completed in 2003.  In 2005 Lynn took the role of Regional Operations Manager for Non Invasive Cardiac Investigations which covers 4 sites. She is a DMU examiner and has a particular interest in education.

Tracy Hecker

Tracy started her career as an RN.  After completing a cardiovascular nursing course she worked in the area of cardiac medical and surgical nursing, including developing the role of heart transplant co-ordinator at FMC.  In 1995 she began her training in echocardiography, completing part 1 of the DMU and later the graduate Diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound (QUT). She has a particular interest in congenital heart disease from both the adult and paediatric perspectives and is currently the head of the paediatric echo service at FMC which covers the Neonatal ICU, post natal and paediatric wards.
