O&G Ultrasound Symposium

Invitation

We warmly invite you to participate in this, ASUM’s Annual Obstetric & Gynaecological Symposium. Since its inception, this meeting has been a major success and is a feature of ASUM’s Ultrasound Education program.

The goal of the program is to provide practical education relevant to all practitioners of medical ultrasound. To achieve this, faculty has been drawn from leading clinical teams and academic institutions in Australia, New Zealand and internationally. This program runs in conjunction with the Multidisciplinary Ultrasound Workshop, DMU Preparation Course and the DDU Technical Seminar.

International Keynote Speaker:

Professor Pat Magann
Pat Magann is a Professor of OB/GYN ,  Division and  Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM)  Fellowship Director at the University of Arkansas.   Dr Magann earned his medical  degree at the Medical College of Virginia,  completed his OB/GYN residency at Charlotte Memorial Hospital,  Charlotte, NC and a MFM Fellowship  at the University of Mississippi.   He has had a varied career in private practice, academic and military medicine both in the US and overseas. He is board certified in OB/GYN and MFM by the American Board of OB/GYN and a fellow with RANZCOG.   He has authored over 250 peer reviewed publications.

Dr Christopher Barry

Chris qualified from Guy’s Hospital. London many years ago and spent most of my training in Bristol and the South-West of England. He worked at the Institute of Urology, under Paul Abrams and moved to Australia 10 years ago, to South Australia and subsequently to Townsville and James Cook University, as a Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. My particular interest is in Urogynaecology and I am currently completing a PhD into the use of 4-dimensional ultrasound and its application for the assessment of women with pelvic floor dysfunction. I now work at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and hold an Honorary title of Visiting Lecturer at the University of Adelaide. In addition I am President of the South Australian branch of the CFA.

Professor Hans Peter Dietz

Prof. Hans Peter Dietz graduated from Heidelberg University, Germany, in 1988, obtaining an MD there in 1989. He arrived in Australia in 1997 and completed his FRANCOG training in 1998. Between 1999 and 2002, he undertook urogynaecology subspeciality training in Sydney and obtained a PhD with UNSW.
Since 2009 he is Professor in O/G at the Sydney Medical School Nepean, University of Sydney, and Head of Discipline since 2010. He is an Editor of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Associate Editor of the Australian and NZ Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He lives in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney with his wife Susanne and two sons.

Dr Rosalie Grivell

Rosalie is a Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Adelaide and a Maternal Fetal Medicine trainee. Her research interests include the areas of Evidence Based Medicine, the translation of evidence into practice and the conduct of clinical trials in maternal and perinatal health. Rosalie’s current research agenda incorporates key areas relating to the health of women and babies including fetal growth and surveillance, induction of labour and overweight and obesity.

Wendy Hodge

Wendy Hodge  MBBS, FRANZCOG, Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Womens and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide for over 5 years.

Prior to this Wendy worked in the UK.

Wendy has a particular interest in the diagnosis and mangement of ectopic pregnancies.

Dr Hohn Hyett

Jon Hyett is the Head of High Risk Obstetrics at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney and Clinical Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Sydney. He trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and sub-specialised in Maternal and Fetal Medicine in the UK. His primary research interests are prenatal diagnosis in the first trimester of pregnancy, the management of twin pregnancies and translational research using free fetal DNA for prenatal screening. Jon is keen to promote education and the development of quality assurance programs in Obstetric ultrasound. He has been involved in the international ultrasound accreditation programs of the Fetal Medicine Foundation and with the Nuchal Translucency Accreditation Program in Australia.

Dr Juliet Kaye

Dr Juliet Kaye is a consultant radiologist at the Womens & Childrens Hospital in Adelaide, South Australia. She has a particular interest in fetal imaging, including the correlation of obstetric  ultrasound and fetal MRI in diagnosis and management of fetal anomalies.

Dr Andrew McLennan

Andrew is a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist whose particular interest is in prenatal diagnosis and ultrasound. He is a consultant to the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney and a Partner at Sydney Ultrasound for Women.

He introduced Nuchal Translucency (NT) screening for Down syndrome to Australia and is the current Chairman of the National Nuchal Translucency Education and Monitoring Program. Andrew has been extensively involved in first trimester screening education across Australia and Asia and is actively involved in research into early diagnosis of fetal abnormalities.

Dr Ritu Mogra

Ritu is a specialist Obstetrician and Gynecologist and have done subspecialisation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology ultrasound. She is currently working as a staff specialist in ultrasound department at RPA hospital and at Sydney ultrasound for women. She has special  interest in fetal echocardiography and have done 6 months fellowship at King’s College Hospital, London. Her research interest includes fetal cardiac function.

Dr Peter Muller

Dr.Peter Muller is a FACOG, FRANZCOG, and USA Certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine Sub-specialist. After 8 years in Private Practice in Obstetric/Gynecology in Charlotte, North Carolina, Peter underwent the three year certified fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Peter is currently Director of Women’s Imaging at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide, council member of the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand, and council member of the SA Branch of Australasia Society of Ultrasound in Medicine.

His clinical and research interests include preconception counseling women with medical complications and previous adverse pregnancy outcomes, hypertension in pregnancy, and fetal surveillance for the complicated multiple pregnancy, fetal  growth restricted fetus, and both red cell and platelet allo-immunization.

Dr Fergus Scott

Fergus is a graduate of MonashUniversityand specialized in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G). Subspecialisation was in both Maternal Fetal Medicine and O&G Ultrasound. Fergus became a partner in Sydney Ultrasound for Women in 1996 and is a staff specialist in the imaging department at theRoyal Hospital for Women. Currently chair of the COGU subspecialty and is the President of ASUM. Areas of interest include invasive testing in pregnancy, 3/4D imaging and first trimester screening.

Mrs Trisha Mathers

Trish is a qualified sonographer, employed by Benson Radiology in South Australia.  Her day to day work covers a wide range of general sonography but her main area of interest is in obstetrics and gynaecology, particularly high risk pregnancy and multiple gestations.
